A prescription for beans on beans
Kelly talks about why he is trying to grow soybeans without a rotation and the fertility that is needed to do it successfully with Tommy Roach of Nachurs.
00:00 Hi, this is Kelly Garrett from extreme egg. We're out here today with Tommy roach of natures. We're standing in a research field of mine. It's 00:06 been on being research soybean after soybean. That is the reason that we're doing. This is because of the renewable fuels potential that's going 00:15 on the United States and the upcoming demand for soybean oil. You know, I have read from certain analysts 00:21 that in the year 2026 the American Farmer cannot meet the demand for soybean oil. So I talked with Tommy and I'm like, I'd like to grow beans after beans but 00:30 it's challenging. Can you help us out? What would you like to do? We've got fertility and furl here 00:36 and we've got fertility in the two by two. Tommy designed this for us. We're out here today looking at it. We're standing here right about the line in this 00:45 hand or two plants from the treated with all with the fertility. They're not V7. Here's two plants from the untreated. They're at V5. So that's an exciting thing 00:54 coming up. We're gonna have to follow this through and see if this all carries out to yield Tommy. You want 01:00 to talk a little bit about what's going on here. Yeah, the I guess the deal with soybeans you can't put a lot of nutrition 01:06 in the furrow at planting. So if we're gonna kind of get outside the box, we're gonna have to do a little bit in for oh beside the 01:17 row and what we call tuba to you can't put, you know, a lot of potassium a lot of sulfur in the row. So we put it 01:26 outside the row and that's the only way that we're gonna deal with these being on being Acres because it's you're gonna you're going to get a penalty. I mean you always corn 01:35 on corn penalty, you know being gonna be worse. And what is that penalty the penalty is? Well the penalties yield in the end. But right. Wow, so for beans you're 01:45 gonna get penalty unyield place you're going to get a penalty on I think on disease pressure and wheat pressure. I agree 100% And so we've got to get 01:54 outside the box and think of different ways to not only just we're trying to maintain what soybean yields would be on a corn on the bean 02:03 rotation if we can maintain it. I say we're We can maintain yield. That's a big pot. That's right. Absolutely and what you're seeing here today with the 02:13 plants like this and stuff. Obviously, we have to take this to yield. We don't know yet. But do you feel good about what's going on so far? Well any time that you 02:19 know, a two-leaf difference at this stage more Leaf surface area more photosynthesis more sugars more production of plant 02:28 food, which, you know, theoretically would mean more you plans doing better and more you absolutely. Okay. Thank you.
